One very simple “trick” we use is http://www.truecrypt.org/. This free program lets you securely password a “file” that is used as a container for other files (like a zip file). If all you need to do is keep a few personnel files or perhaps your QuickBooks file on the server and want to keep it secure this is a good solution. Just watch out for key loggers.
